Line 2 - Airport Branch

Since March 15, 2023, the Metro Aeropuerto (Airport Metro) station has been operational as part of the extension of Line 2 from Corredor Sur to Tocumen International Airport. This connection has integrated the airport with the city's main public transportation network.

Line 2 of the metro connects with Line 1 at the San Miguelito station, facilitating access to different points in Panama City without the need to take a taxi or private service.

Steps to Follow

To travel from Tocumen International Airport to downtown Panama City or commercial areas, you must follow these steps:

From the Aeropuerto station, take the branch line train that will take you to the Corredor Sur station on Line 2. This transfer is included in the Metro fare.
At the Corredor Sur station, board the Line 2 train heading towards the San Miguelito station.
At the San Miguelito station, you can connect to Line 1 if your destination is in the city center or in one of the commercial areas located along this line.
Line 1 will take you to the city center, where many of the most important commercial areas are located.

Payment Methods and Fares

The cost of the trip will depend on the lines you use, but if you want to go to the center or commercial areas, you will need to use both lines in a single journey, and the total cost of the trip will be $0.85.

If you only use Line 1, the cost is $0.35.
If you use Line 2, the cost is $0.50.

Payment Methods

Contactless credit or debit cards (Mastercard, Visa).
Mobile devices with NFC (Apple Pay, Google Pay).
Metro Card, which can be purchased and recharged at the machines in each station (additional cost of $2.00).

Keep in mind:

You can use contactless debit or credit cards or your mobile phone with Apple or Google Pay to pay directly at the validators in each station of the Panama Metro. This way, you only need to bring your contactless card or mobile phone close to the validator in the stations to enter and exit the system. This option is convenient if you prefer not to purchase the traditional metro travel card, which allows you to save $2.00 from the cost of the Metro card.

❌ The Negatives:

Poor Signage within the airport: Some travelers have difficulty locating the entrance to the station.
Not always faster than a taxi: For long journeys or with transfers, it may take longer than an Uber or taxi.
Reduced Hours on Sundays: Service starts later on Sundays, affecting those with early flights.
Occasional Problems with contactless payment: Some passengers have reported failures in the validation of cards at the turnstiles.
